Dr. Eleni Paliokosta

Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist

Dr Paliokosta co-founded the Effra Clinic in 2015 with her colleagues Dr Maltezos and Dr Whitwell. She combines her work in the Effra Clinic with a Consultant role in the specialist service for children with autism and complex neurodevelopmental disorders at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

Background

Dr Paliokosta qualified as a doctor after attending medical school at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She trained in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Athens and she completed a PhD in Autism before moving to London to gain further experience in the field of neurodevelopmental condition working at the Maudsley Hospital and having a research role at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience.


Dr Paliokosta is an associate member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and she is on the General Medical Council specialist register.



Experience

Dr Paliokosta has been very interested in neurodevelopmental conditions from the start of her post-graduate career and during her specialty training, she completed a PhD in Autism, participating also to the International molecular genetic study of autism consortium (IMGSAC). She held a research fellow post working in research projects at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience and she worked in a variety of specialist services for children with neurodevelopmental problems, being for many years the lead of the Autism Assessment pathway in Camden borough while also being the lead consultant in the integrated service for children with disabilities in Camden.


Dr Paliokosta is currently a Consultant in Mental Health in Intellectual Disability team in SCAAND (The Service for Complex Autism and Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorders, including Intellectual Disability), a Tier-4 specialist service for children and young people at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.


Other information

As well as a special interest in ADHD, ID and Autism, Dr Paliokosta has always been interested in education and training.  She is an ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) trainer and has been involved in teaching.
